The report synthesizes the most important inter-linkages between biodiversity, ecosystem stability, and  epidemic infectious diseases such as the Ebola virus ; and the connection between biodiversity, nutritional diversity and health. It also covers the potential benefits of closer partnerships between conservation and health, from improved surveillance of infectious diseases in wildlife and human populations, to promoting access to green spaces to promote physical activity and mental health.

The World Health Organization (WHO) and the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) have established a Joint Work Programme on Biodiversity and Health since 2012, to raise awareness of the intimate interconnections between healthy ecosystems and human health, and to support policy-makers, practitioners and the broader international community in addressing some of the most pressing environmental, health and development challenges of our time.

After controlling for socioeconomic indicators, this study finds longer healthy life is enjoyed by populations of countries with greater dietary diversity . The study uses international databases of Healthy Life Expectancy (HALE) and dietary diversity that obtained from food groups using the Quantitative Index for Dietary Diversity (QUANTIDD). HALE data by country were derived from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2015 database. Average food supply (g/day/capita) and energy supply (kcal/day/capita) by country, excluding loss between production and household, were obtained from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations Statistics Division database. Each food was sorted across 12 food groups, The cross-sectional and longitudinal associations between QUANTIDD and HALE were examined in the countries with populations of one million or greater.

Why do I put my food in a plate and use it for education? Harvard University and Health Canada are use the same idea to promote health and nutrition. In 2019, the EAT-Lancet   Commission developed the world s first scientific targets for healthy and sustainable food systems, including a planetary health diet with defined daily consumption ranges for each food group. This dietary pattern is designed to be flexible to accommodate local and individual situations, traditions, and dietary preferences.

Broccoli and brussels sprouts have made their comeback during the Covid 19 pandemic, because of the benefits of sulforaphanes. They are powerful liver detoxification and inflammation reduction. They trigger an increase in the activity of Antioxidant enzymes that fight inflammation and thus increase a healthy inflammatory response. They also promote Glutathione - the most prevalent intra-cellular antioxidant and they allow DNA to protect and repair itself.

I love the colors in my sister Ming's plate. The pigments represent different micronutrients and bioreactive chemicals in foods They are directly involved in metabolic reactions that determine everything from hormonal balances and immune competence to detoxification processes.    -- Dr. Jian Guan  www.CANH.ca
